Christmas drain can often be manic. There are just so many people benefit from the extended break to visit family and friends, or just go out and seek some winter sunshine that airports can get very busy.

Traditionally the busiest day is just before Christmas and shortly after, usually 27th and 28 December. To make traveling through the airport easier to handle this Christmas, travelers have to accept that it will be busy, expect crowds and plan accordingly.

To help you be as organized as possible this Christmas, check out the following tips to help your preparation, you save time and reduce airport trouble:

1.Use online check-in
It is such a wonderful invention, so if your airline allows, check-in online and print your own boarding pass. This saves you hassle of queuing at the airport – just drop off your luggage when you arrive at the airport and go directly to security control.

2.Arrive early
Accept that there will be a significant increase in the number of passengers, and possibly long queues, so plan to arrive in good time before departure gives plenty of time to pass through security checkpoints.

3.Getting to the airport
The number of people on the roads increases at this time of year, not all of them go to airport, but it will be busy on the roads, so allow plenty of extra time for your journey.

If you travel by public transport check the Christmas and New Year schedules for your chosen method of transport. Most services operate a limited service over the seasonal period, so check and book your tickets in advance to secure your space.

If you are driving, plan your route in advance – there are several online travel planners to choose from. Check for advanced notification of planned road works, which may affect your trip. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport gives extra time for heavy traffic and possibly bad weather.

4.Book your airport parking at advance
If you drive to the airport, be sure to book your airport parking in advance. This not only saves you time and stress, it guarantees your seat and you can save up to 60% on port fees.

5.Christmas presents
Make sure you are up to date on the hand and checked-in baggage rules, so you do not waste time, or have confiscated animal products, when you pass through security checkpoints.

Do not wrap all the Christmas gifts that you plan to implement in your hand luggage as these will be available to security checks and may need to be unwrapped.

Keep liquids in hand baggage restrictions applies to gifts in your hand luggage too, so pack all liquids in more than 100 ml in your checked-in baggage.

If you plan to implement mopeds, contact your airline and airport first so many airports that will not allow the transport of crackers, and if permitted would only allow manufactured biscuits in sealed containers to be transported in the cargo compartment only.

Do not wear Party poppers – these are explosive elements and are prohibited from airplanes.

To avoid the hassle of security, it is advisable to pack as much as possible in your checked-in baggage, and if you are unsure about what you can and can not bear to check with your airline.
